“We can do hard things.” - Glennon Doyle
Asking for help can be hard. Taking this step to seek counseling is a brave one and shows you are already taking actions to start exploring changes in your life. If you're ready, I would be excited and honored to support you on the path towards continued personal growth.
My early background as a therapist was primarily working in residential treatment settings helping adolescents and adults who were navigating co-occurring addiction and acute mental illness. After becoming a parent, I transitioned to remote work monitoring professional healthcare populations who were in early addiction recovery and dealing with stigma, burnout, and the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I was eager to return to direct therapy work when I started my private practice in 2021. Since then, I have enjoyed refocusing my work on the issues I’m most passionate about, such as helping people explore and navigate adult / late diagnosed neurodivergence (ADHD/ASD), gender and sexuality, and complex trauma.
I rely heavily on an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model as I have found that it aligns well with an affirming and collaborative approach. With this model we can focus on why your struggles and emotions make sense, how to deepen self-trust by working with your mind and body rather than against them, lowing distressing symptoms through mindfulness and somatic practices, and increasing confidence and momentum by exploring your chosen values and setting goals towards increasing meaning, autonomy, and joy in your life. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which is effective in reducing PTSD symptoms from acute trauma and negative core beliefs that may be lingering from early childhood trauma.
My graduate program was heavily focused on social justice, anti-racism, and affirmative practices which all remain strong values in my work today. As a queer and neurodivergent person, myself, I understand how important it is to feel understood, valued, and empowered to navigate the oppressive systems surrounding us. Watching client’s cultivate euphoria and joy in their own identity and gain confidence and progress in their path forward are the most meaningful parts of this work.
If this is the work you'd like to start, please reach out to set up a consultation or first session. Together, we can do hard things.
