Jessica Calcagni, LMFT
Independent Contractor Therapist
Welcome — I’m Jessica Calcagni, LMFT.
Starting therapy is a courageous step, and I’m so glad you’re here.
In my practice, I strive to offer a safe, supportive space to explore what’s feeling heavy, confusing, or out of alignment in your life. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, working through trauma, managing anxiety or depression, or simply trying to make sense of your relationships and inner world, therapy can be a place for curiosity and growth. It’s a place you can be authentic and feel accepted.
Bonding goes from the cradle to the grave… We reach and invite for connection. - Sue Johnson
Topics of Focus
I work with individuals and couples facing a range of concerns and aim to offer affirming, culturally responsive therapy. I’m especially passionate about supporting queer clients and those navigating complex family or relational dynamics.
Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and depression
Queer and BIPOC affirming and responsive care
Relationships, family dynamics, and parenting
Life transitions, personal growth, and identity exploration
Coping and medical and health-related issues
Couples therapy focused on attachment, equity, and intimacy
For many people, the presence of conflict is the same as saying “I don’t love you” so what people do is they try to get rid of it, and they don’t find ways to make it into something useful. I tell people to appreciate that they are unique beings and what is coming out is information we can use to help one another. - Virginia Satir
Approach
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and deeply grounded in the belief that healing happens in relationship — with ourselves and with others.
We can live a whole life. We can be congruent with one another and be real with one another. Make… a garden place. Take that wonderful seed and see what is the growing conditions, what is the light, what is the temperature? You’ll spend more time listening than judging. - Virginia Satir
I consider the broader context of your life — your identities, relationships, and lived experiences — and how those intersect to understand challenges and spaces for growth. I integrate a range of approaches pulling from systemic, addiction, trauma-focused and informed, and evidence-based modalities. These include EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and always tailoring our work to what best supports your needs and goals.
Education and Experiences
I have worked in various levels of care and contexts, including primary care, foster care, psychiatric and medical hospitalization, and gambling and substance use treatment where I was a certified alcohol and drug (CADC) and gambling addiction (CGAC) counselor. I try to bring those experiences into my private practice today.
Beyond clinical work, I serve as an instructor, teaching graduate-level counseling courses, and supervising emerging clinicians. I approach supervision and teaching much like therapy: with presence and a commitment to nurturing growth through reflection and respect.
